Active learning in Mobile Computing

Abstract:
Active learning is a branch of supervised machine learning where a learning algorithm interactively queries users or labellers to obtain information at new data points. In the context of mobile computing, we are not only concerned with obtaining labels of stored or streaming data but also the costs (e.g., network transfer, traveling time) from acquiring raw and labelled data. In this talk, I will present some of my recent work on the topics of : 1) distributed active learning in crowdsensing and 2) informative path planning for location fingerprint collection, and discuss future research directions.
