CSE student among winners of a SIAM contest
CSE student John Ernsthausen won the second prize in the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) contest Math Matters, Apply It! which seeks to highlight the role of applications of mathematics in our everyday lives. John submitted a flier entitled "The math behind ... Color Outcomes" about certain mathematical and computational problems arising in color analysis. Update on the 2017 Symposium
The were many very good presentations which made selecting the prize
winners a difficult task. Based on the advice of a group of faculty
John Ernsthausen was declared the winner of the first prize, and
Michael Xu was declared the winner of the second prize
(the prizes are giftcards to the campus bookstore).
